OAK TREE CONCERTS

Presenting House Concerts in an Intimate Outdoor Setting.

Hailing from Carbondale, Illinois, the Bankesters are a family bluegrass band who skillfully walk the line between the past and present. Dominated by the harmonies of sisters Melissa Triplett, and Emily Bankester, the Bankesters have a delicate touch but they're not mere sweetness: the original songs are sturdily constructed and their cover choices, including White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" on 2017's Nightbird, are clever.

The Bankesters coalesced in the late 2000s. The group released three independent records -- Amen, There's a Higher Power, Somewhere in Between, Sure as the Sun -- before signing to Compass in 2012.

The band has released three records on Compass - Looking Forward, Love Has Wheels and Nightbird. The band has been in heavy rotation on Sirius XMs bluegrass junction.

In addition original material, the band mixes in covers version of some familiar songs, including "Cups (When I'm Gone)," the Anna Kendrick hit single from the 2012 musical comedy Pitch Perfect, "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes and "Shine" by Collective Soul.

The Special Consensus Bluegrass Band proudly celebrated its 41st anniversary in 2016.  Special C is a superb bluegrass outfit in a classic vein but with more than enough modern sensibilities to attract every ear in this now pleasantly fractionating genre.

Band leader/banjo player and founding member Greg Cahill was awarded the IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award in 2011. Other band members include guitarist Rick Faris, bass player Dan Eubanks, and mandolin player Nick Dumas.

Special Consensus records for Compass Records and the 2012 band release “Scratch Gravel Road” was GRAMMY nominated for Best Bluegrass Album.

“Country Boy: A Bluegrass Tribute to John Denver” received awards in October 2014 from the International Bluegrass Music Association for Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year.

Special C’s latest Compass Records CD, “Long I Ride”, received three 2016 IBMA nominations and the award for Instrumental Recorded Project of the Year for “Fireball”.
